[Via Satellite 05-28-2014] ] PT Digital Media Asia is set to deploy the new Viva+ Indonesian Direct-to-Home (DTH) service, which will broadcast all 64 main World Cup games using Newtec’s satellite solution. The games will broadcast over nine new World Cup channels, two of which will be in HD. The DTH platform was launched in April 2014 and will also broadcast a wide variety of Indonesian and international TV channels.

Newtec has been a partner of PT Digital Media Asia since the DTH platform’s early planning stages in 2010. Newtec’s modulation equipment for three transponders was installed and is currently operational, with plans to add more transponders as subscription numbers increase for the service. PT Digital hopes to have 300,000 new subscribers by the first half of 2014, with up to a million in the long-run.

The platform will use Newtec’s Automated Equalink technology, which is designed to offset any imperfections in filters and amplifiers in a satellite. This pre-correction, non-linear technology can save on throughput by up to 10 percent without changing any system parameters or Set-top Boxes (STBs). The platform will also utilize Newtec’s Clean Channel Technology, which combines roll-offs for Second Generation Digital Video Broadcasting – Satellite (DVB S2) and advanced filtering for optimized bandwidth usage.
