[Via Satellite 05-28-2014] French broadcaster TDF will use Envivio’s ultra-HD (4K) compression technology for its live streaming of the French Open 2014 tennis championship to compatible TV sets in France. This will mark the first Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) broadcast transmission in 4K with High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) compression.
TDF will also broadcast various Center Court matches in Second Generation Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB T2) format to the TNT network, and can be viewed on compatible television sets, including those at the RG Lab on France Televisions’ booth and the French Tennis Federation’s Champs de Mars facility near the Eiffel Tower transmission facility. The video broadcast will be encoded at a rate of 50 frames per second via Envivio’s Muse ultra-HD encoding software on the company’s G5 appliances.
