[Via Satellite 03-28-2014] NovelSat has announced the availability of NovelSat FreeBand, a new solution that provides broadcasters with free satellite bandwidth for video contribution. Many broadcasters have to lease satellite bandwidth for their video distribution needs, but also are forced to lease additional bandwidth every time they deploy a remote contribution unit such as DSNGs and flyaways. NovelSat FreeBand will allow broadcasters to use the same bandwidth at the same frequency to both send video to the point-to-multipoint distribution network and to receive video from DSNGs.

This new solution allows broadcasters to deploy a remote contribution unit within their satellite distribution network without having to pay for satellite bandwidth each time, leading to savings in operational costs for the broadcaster.

NovelSat FreeBand works with DVB S2 and NovelSat NS3 satellite transmission technologies at the Hub and remote terminals and is powered by NovelSat DUTE brand-reuse technology. The system can run on DVB S2 technology, but customers will also have the option to implement NovelSat NS3 to achieve up to 40 percent higher spectral efficiency. Use of NovelSat FreeBand requires that the antenna at the distribution hub be larger than the remote antenna.
