[Via Satellite 01-24-2014] Euroconsult’s new report “India Satcom Markets 2014” shows significant growth in India’s satellite communication sector over the past five years due to DTH demand and increasing telecommunications needs in the country.
The satcom value chain is heavily influenced by the Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO) that reviews satellite manufacturing, launch, satellite operations, regulations and services. About half of India’s satellite manufacturing sector spending is dedicated to developing communications satellites. According to the report, satellite capacity demand from DTH broadcasting has grown more than 7 percent since 2008, now representing almost a third of the country’s commercial satellite capacity usage.
“Changes in the country’s satcom policy, which is expected to be released in 2014, should bring positive changes and contribute to additional growth in satcom markets over the coming years, in particular for services using Ku-band capacity from foreign operators,” said Deepu Krishnan, senior consultant at Euroconsult.
