[Satellite TODAY 07-26-13] MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA), a global communications and information company, announced it has signed a multimillion dollar contract with Boeing for four advanced technology solutions. MDA will provide the solutions for a 702HP communication satellite.
According to Boeing officials, satellite operators have responded enthusiastically to the increased capabilities represented by the Boeing 702. Boeing announced the satellite series back in 1995, and in 2009 introduced a mid-ranged version, the 702MP for mid-power. At that time the legacy Boeing 702 was designated the Boeing 702HP for high-power model. Evolved from the 601 and 601HP (high-power) spacecraft, the body-stabilized Boeing 702 features advanced capacity, performance and cost-efficiency.
After the payload is tailored to customer specifications, the payload module mounts to the common bus module at only four locations and with only six electrical connectors. The Boeing 702HP also incorporates a bipropellant propulsion system, which can lift the satellite into final orbit after separation from the launch vehicle.
