[Satellite TODAY 07-19-13] At the ACOMM awards July 18, the Communications Alliance awarded Optus the “Satellite Provider of the Year” honor for the company’s commitment to providing satellite products and services in remote areas of Australia.
Some of the services provided by Optus that helped the company win this recognition are the the first release satellite service (FRSS), a wholesale broadband access service for the National Broadband Network (NBN Co), which has made high-speed broadband access available in even the most remote areas of the ecountry. Also, the Optus SatZone, which delivers 3G mobile connectivity to remote locations using a satellite backhaul, and Aurora Digital, Optus’ satellite broadcast distribution platform that delivers satellite direct to homeâ?¨broadcast television and radio services through small satellite dishes to regional and remote Australia. â?¨
Current services encompass 16 high definition and 76 standard definition TV channels, together with 74 radio channels. The seventh annual ACOMM awards was a sold out event that acknowledged excellence among communications industry participants, including service providers, content providers, carriers and technology partners.
