[Satellite TODAY 06-07-13] Netherlands-based Mobile Viewpoint (MVP), has been shortlisted for the IBC Awards. Mobile Viewpoint is nominated in the content creation category with a project the company implemented together with the British Broadcasting Company (BBC).

Cooperation between the broadcaster and the technology provider is cited as the reason for the shortlisting, along with continuous coverage of the carrying of the Olympic torch throughout the United Kingdom in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics last summer. The BBC was able to cover this event live, without interruptions, because of the 3G LTE technology developed by Mobile Viewpoint. The BBC used the event to build audience anticipation for last year’s Olympic games showing every moment of the 13,000 km, 70 day torch relay around the U.K.

At last years’ IBC, Mobile Viewpoint and the BBC already received the SVG Europe Sport Technology Award for the same project. The strong partnership between the Dutch company and the BBC was cemented during the torch relay project.

Michel Bais, CEO of Mobile Viewpoint said that “based on the experiences of this project we went on to develop other technology specific to the BBC. The Olympic torch project was a start, these days BBC uses our LTE technology to cover events all over the world, live.”
