[Satellite TODAY 05-30-13] International Launch Services (ILS) recently announced that communications satellite SES 6 will be launched on June 3, 2013 at 5:18 p.m. EDT from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. The satellite will feature an E3000 Platform with a separated spacecraft mass of 6,100 kilograms (13,448 pounds).
SES 6 is a multipurpose satellite built by Astrium for SES, and will be replacing NSS-806 at 319.5 degrees east to provide capacity expansion over North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Atlantic Ocean region. The satellite’s expanded Ku-band payload will support DTH platforms, VSAT services and government digital inclusion programs throughout Latin America. The C-band payload will add incremental capacity to support channel growth at this key cable neighborhood.
The satellite will be launched aboard a Proton M/Breeze M rocket, manufactured by Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, based in Russia.
