[Satellite TODAY 05-30-13] DISH has updated its recently released set-top application, which now delivers on-screen social content relevant to the show or channel a viewer is watching. Consumers may now interact with Twitter feeds relevant to currently viewed television shows. Users may also follow their own personal Twitter and Facebook feeds without leaving the screen or interrupting their viewing experience.
The new application is accessible via DISH’s “the Hopper,” and allows end-users to connect up to eight social media accounts to Hopper DVR and post from within the application to personal Twitter and Facebook accounts.
“Last year, Twitter saw 32 million Americans tweet about TV programming, an incredible display of consumer interest in wanting a more social experience from TV,” Jimshade Chaudhari, director of product marketing and management at DISH, said in a statement.
The application also contains a data bar at the bottom of the viewer’s TV screen that displays statistics and relevant information related to the program being watched. Displayed information includes information about the top areas in the country where people are Tweeting about the program, the program’s sentiment rating, percentage of Tweeters by gender and frequency of Tweets.
