[Satellite TODAY 05-13-13] ViaSat’s new high-speed satellite communication links were used in recent disaster recovery operations in West Texas, the company announced May 13. The links gave Texas first responders an opportunity to coordinate disaster relief operations.

    The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center used a variety of technology including computers and wireless infrastructure for access to the Internet, e-mail, imagery, social media, and corporate networks.

    With the help of ViaSat’s services, Team Rubicon, a veteran-run non-profit, was able to coordinate the efforts of 4,500 volunteers and organize the distribution of 40 tons of supplies to the community.
