[Satellite TODAY 03-14-13] Global FSS operator Telesat has signed a deal with OmniAccess, a VSAT service provider and network integrator in the luxury super yacht market. Under the deal, OmniAccess will contract additional Ku-band capacity on Telesat’s Telstar 12 satellite.

   Located at 15 degrees west, Telstar 12 provides connectivity between the Europe-Middle East region and the United States. The capacity will enable OmniAccess to meet demand for maritime broadband services in the Mediterranean and inland waterways across Europe.

   According to Bertrand Hartman, CEO of OmniAccess, the company has also decided to upgrade the capabilities of its teleport in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, to have access to the new Telstar 12 capacity using iDirect’s new X7 series modem.
