[Satellite TODAY 03-12-13] The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has granted the first low-profile Vehicle Mounted Earth Station (VMES) license to ThinKom Solutions’ ThinSAT 300 on-the-move antenna product.
The ThinSAT 300 is a low-profile solution for Ku-Band Satellite Communications On-The-Move (SOTM). The ultra-low-profile, 4.5-inch-high, 60-inch-long enclosure, provides up to 8Mbps data rates and up to four times lower operating expense to the end user, according to ThinKom.
The license provides ALSAT approval allowing operation on any of the authorized domestic satellites without further license additions or modifications. It also allows for the highest uplink Power Spectral Density (PSD) limits approved for such terminals, supporting 18.4 dB/4KHz, which eliminates the need to use costly spread spectrum waveforms.
