[Satellite TODAY 01-30-13] ViaSat has signed four new contracts to increase the total Ku-band capacity of its global mobility network by more than 60 percent. The additional bandwidth will be used for government and general aviation business growth, as well as customer requirements for high data rates for mobile satellite communications.

According to ViaSat, the expansion is an overlay to its mobile network. With the new capacity, the company expects to offer new service plans for its growing base of government and aviation customers.
The sustained growth in airborne satellite communications for ViaSat was recently highlighted by the delivery of the 500th VR-12 satellite terminal. This ultra-small aperture system has been a key technology for the company’s participation in both general aviation and government mobility markets.
