[Satellite TODAY 01-28-13] RuSat, a satellite service provider for enterprise customers, Internet service providers, and government agencies in Russia, has announced the launch of a new satellite broadband service using Newtec’s latest VSAT hub and end-user terminal technology. The service will enable high speed and competitive broadband connectivity throughout Russia using Gazprom Space Systems’ Yamal-402 satellite launched in December 2012.

Until now, the only VSAT services offered in Russia were expensive and only available in limited parts of the country. “The Russian VSAT broadband market is experiencing a real boost as more capacity becomes available over a wider geographic area,” said Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec in a statement.
While the RuSat service will use Ku band, the terminals in Newtec’s high-speed VSAT broadband technology can be easily upgraded later to operate in Ka band by a simple change of Newtec’s interactive LNB, with no hardware adaptation to the satellite modem or the antenna.
Raduga Internet is the first internet service provider that is using RuSat’s service to offer internet services to the consumer market.
