[Satellite TODAY 01-22-13] The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) has granted Hispasat an $87.1 million guarantee of a loan extended by Crédit Agricole and other European lenders. The move will help Hispasat finance the assembly and purchase of a satellite to be manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation.

   The guarantee will help support almost 600 U.S. jobs according to the Departments of Commerce and Labor. This marks the third transaction between Hispasat and the Ex-Im Bank. A previous transaction between the Ex-Im Bank and Hispasat – the fourth largest western European satellite operator and eight largest in the world – was recognized as “Deal of the Year” at the 2012 Ex-Im Bank Annual Conference.
   In the past, the Ex-Im bank has helped finance other commercial satellites built by Orbital, to boost the United State’s participation in the international market. Thus, supporting jobs in Orbital’s workforce and its U.S. suppliers.
   In 2012, the Ex-Im Bank broke its record by authorizing $1.4 billion to finance exports of American-made telecommunications satellites. For the first quarter of 2013, it has already authorized $516.9 million.
