[Satellite TODAY 12-19-12] Boeing’s third of four 702 Medium Power (MP) satellites for Intelsat S.A. arrived at the Sea Launch home port in Long Beach, Calif. on Nov. 28., the companies announced Dec. 18.

Intelsat 27 is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2013 and is designed to provide North America, South America and Europe with media, network and government communications services. The satellite will be located at 304.5 degrees East and will replace Intelsat 805 and Galaxy 11, completing Intelsat’s global broadband mobility platform, which will consist of 10 beams on seven satellites. Intelsat 27 is also equipped with a UHF hosted payload designed for use in government applications as well as direct-to-home and video distribution services.
"By working together with Intelsat and building on the 702MP’s flexible, modular design, we have tailored each satellite to offer the specific capabilities required while delivering them on or ahead of schedule," Boeing Satellite Systems International CEO and Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems Vice President and General Manager Craig Cooning said in a statement.
