[Satellite TODAY 11-27-12] Polaris Wireless will participate in the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) advisory committee, Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC)’s indoor location technology market trial Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 in San Francisco Bay Area’s urban, suburban, and rural communities, Polaris announced Nov. 27.

Polaris Wireless is the only network-based location technology provider that is being tested in indoor environments. Polaris Wireless Location Signatures, a software- based RF Pattern Matching approach to the high-accuracy location determination problem which requires no changes in the wireless device or in the wireless service provider’s base stations, will be simultaneously tested along with other indoor technologies from Qualcomm, Boeing, and NextNav.
CSRIC’s goal is to identify technologies that can be deployed to enable Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP)’s to locate emergency callers quickly and accurately. One of the primary challenges for today’s public safety responder is to accurately locate an emergency caller indoors, only growing with the increased use of mobile devices indoors.
Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) developed many of the testing’s standards and methodologies and ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller welcomes Polaris Wireless’ participation. “Polaris Wireless’ contributions in ATIS and CSRIC, and its knowledge of the criticality of location accuracy to emergency services, will play a critical role in understanding the capabilities of the current location technologies,” Miller said in a statement.
