[Satellite TODAY 11-26-12] EchoStar and Arianespace will collaborate to launch several new satellites from the French Guiana spaceport over a multi-year period, providing EchoStar with launch capacity and flexibility for its satellite program, the companies announced Nov. 26.

According to EchoStar Satellite Services President Anders Johnson, the collaboration between the EchoStar subsidiary Hughes and Arianespace to successfully launch the Ariane 5 inspired EchoStar’s confidence in Arianespace’s future launch ability. EchoStar aims to rely on the Ariane 5 flight-proven launch system in its upcoming expansion programs.
With this new contract, EchoStar aims to expand on its relationship with Arianespace, dating back to 1996, to deliver advanced direct-to-home (DTH) services while expanding transponder capacity significantly.
"EchoStar’s renewed confidence in Arianespace is extremely gratifying to us,” Arianespace Chairman and CEO Jean-Yves Le Gall said in a statement. “This launch contract allows us to play a role in the expansion of EchoStar’s broadcast and data revolution. Our dedication to quality gives customers like EchoStar a solid foundation for innovation and growth."
