[Satellite TODAY 11-14-12] Intelsat S.A. has signed a multi-year agreement with Time Warner Cable Sports for a turnkey solution for the distribution of two new sports-themed channels combining the IntelsatOneSM terrestrial network with capacity on Galaxy 17, the satellite services provider announced Nov. 13.
According to the agreement, Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will be added to Intelsat’s 91 degrees West video neighborhood, enabling reliable and broad distribution of these channels to viewers in the continental United States and Hawaii.
The network will feature more than 150 live events, extensive team coverage and behind-the-scenes access and Time Warner Cable Deportes will also be the first U.S. regional sports network to broadcast entirely in Spanish.
At Time Warner Cable’s El Segundo, Calif. facility, Intelsat will provide on-site encoding and multiplexing, along with fiber connectivity and uplinking via IntelsatOne. Time Warner Cable Sports will be able to access Intelsat’s other solutions to provide live coverage games from across the country as well as to easily scale its network.
“With nearly 100 percent penetration of the U.S. cable market, Intelsat’s video neighborhoods are the leading choice for sports programmers, such as Time Warner Cable Sports, seeking maximum viewership in the United States,” Intelsat Regional Vice President of North America Sales Mark Rasmussen said in a statement. “This agreement on Galaxy 17 reinforces our long tradition of providing effective delivery solutions to the top content providers in North America and across the globe.”
