[Satellite TODAY 11-02-12] SES has certified a new SAT-over-IP converter by Taiwanese cable TV and set-box manufacturer Zinwell, SES announced Nov. 2.

The new SAT-over-IP standard is designed to convert satellite-delivered programs into Internet Protocol (IP) at the point of reception in the home. This aims to deliver a full line-up of satellite TV content to households via their in-home internet distribution system on a variety of IP-devices, including smartphones, tablets and smart TVs, simultaneously. According to the new standard, the Zinwell SAT-over-IP switch/server is the second to be certified within four months.
“The Zinwell SAT-over-IP switch/server offers an opportunity for portable and IP device users to watch rich satellite programs on their favorite devices, such as iPads, iPhones, Android tablets, smartphones, laptops, smart TVs or any networking devices,” said Zinwell Vice President of Marketing and Sales Chester Wu. “The installation and distribution cost can also be significantly reduced by using the Multicast and Unicast features in SMATV systems in hotels and flats. Our SAT-over-IP switch/server will be a cutting-edge device for multiscreen viewing in Europe.”
