SiriusXM and Space Systems/Loral have donated the Sirius FM-4 broadcasting satellite to the Smithsonian Institution. Even though this flight-ready back up was never launched, it was one of the first satellites designed to provide digital satellite radio service to the U.S. and Canada.

The satellite will be displayed at the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center located in Chantilly, Va., near Washington Dulles International Airport. Its addition will help the museum educate about the importance of satellite communications in modern life.
