[Satellite TODAY 10-17-12] Technicolor has extended its contract with Malaysian cross-media group Astro to continue its production of MediaPlay High-Definition (HD) MPEG-4 set-top boxes for Astro, Technicolor announced Oct. 16.

Technicolor’s set-top boxes are committed to an ecodesign and are designed to offer the ability to record numerous external disks for subscribers to tailor their own recording capability. The new wider range of MediaPlay set-top boxes also aims to provide services including multi-room and multi-screen, on demand, wireless streaming or Over-The-Top services. Technicolor will continue to provide Astro with after-sales support and extensive logistics.
“This is another important milestone in our long-term relationship with Astro, which is a proof of the reliability and future-proofing of Technicolor’s products and services,” Technicolor Connected Home Division President Michel Rahier said in a statement. “We have been partnering for about 8 years now and it is a great pride to see our products continue to be a part of Astro’s successful strategy of delivering high-quality services.”
