According to Eutelsat, this decision was due to EU Council’s reinforced sanctions along with confirmation by French broadcasting authority Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel to permanently switch off the Sahar 1 channel that broadcasts IRIB’s television and radio services.

IRIB has been informed of its contract termination and transmissions through the Hot Bird transponder concluded the morning of Oct. 15.
