[Satellite TODAY 10-15-12] Joint testing and installation of Newtec’s Ka-band hub infrastructure has been completed by Avanti Communications, InSat and Newtec and the first ISPs testing InSat’s Afghanistan-based VSAT and Broadband IP Access Service has begun for Avanti’s Hylas 2, the companies announced Oct. 15.

InSat is basing its services to Afghan telecom providers on Newtec’s Sat3Play broadband platform, designed to provide IP access services under InSat’s brand name Hi-Stream.
“On site in Afghanistan we have installed control stations and some customer terminals at Afghan Internet service providers to run tests of our broadband satellite Internet access Hi-Stream designed especially for regions like Afghanistan and other emerging countries. I announced the launch at CABSAT in March 2012,” InSat CEO Valentine Gurinovich said in a statement. “The results are very impressive and confirm our choice in favor of Avanti’s Ka-Band satellite Hylas 2 and Newtec’s Sat3Play technology. I kindly invite further Afghan ISPs to become a partner and to participate in the tests to convince themselves of the performance and the competitiveness of our new service.”
Newtec will provide two-way satellite broadband technology and be the exclusive technology partner for all InSat services. According to Newtec CEO Serge Van Herck, the company currently deploys over 100,000 terminals and aims to provide Insat’s ISP’s with download speeds up to 22 Mbps on the MDM2200 broadband terminals.
