Astrium Services’ ND SatCom has been commissioned to provide German media company Südwestrundfunk (SWR) with uplink technology for six radio satellite newsgathering vehicles that are to be implemented in a regional contribution network in the southern part of Germany, Astrium announced Sept. 6.
The contract consists of hardware and software based on the SkyWAN IP platform and the SkyRAY Light antenna standard for transmissions of contribution content via satellite. This technology is part of the Astrium Services’ ND SatCom product range.
“We believe the SkyWAN technology to be the perfect one to enhance our broadcasting infrastructure,” SWR Head of Innovation and Project Management Georg Fuss said in a statement. “It is a very efficient and scalable solution that can easily be extended to accommodate whatever technological requirements the future may bring.” SWR is also considering the option of an upcoming upgrade of the system through the Media Fleet Manager.”
