MultiChoice will migrate its DStv services from its current transponder space on the Intelsat 10 and Intelsat 7 satellites to capacity on the new Intelsat 20 satellite — a move that will allow the broadcaster to offer more channels and services in the future.
   Arianespace launched Intelsat 20 in early August on an Ariane 5 rocket. The satellite has a Southern Africa footprint and is equipped with 24 C-band and 60 Ku-band transponders. MultiChoice will use the Ku-band for its DTH television services. MultiChoice will add six standard definition and seven HD channels to DStv in the beginning of October, bringing the number of HD channels on DStv to 14.
   “We have made a significant investment in this satellite and we will continue to invest in new technology. We constantly innovate to improve the DStv viewing experience as we want our customers to have access to the best entertainment delivered through the best technology available,” MultiChoice South Africa CTO Collins Khumalo said in a statement.
