[Satellite TODAY 08-21-12] Canadian satellite broadcast equipment manufacturer Advantech Wireless has released its new Discovery-series Adaptive Satellite Access Technology (A-SAT) dual-mode RCS/TDMA-SCPC product line, the company announced Aug. 20.

Advantech developed A-SAT several years ago to monitor channel utilization and seamlessly switch satellite access methods and mod codes for the return channel to maximize space-segment utilization efficiency.
The company said the lower cost of the entry-level Discovery 100 Hub, which features the high throughput AMT-75 modem with embedded IPE, has allowed Advantech Wireless to offer more than 100 Mbps of throughput as a forward link at remote stations.
“Operators often face the dilemma of choosing between SCPC or TDMA platforms depending on their customer’s applications and traffic patterns, and more recently face the problem of limited throughput VSATs, as their customer application now demand more and more bandwidth on the return channel,” Advantech Wireless said in a statement. “Recognizing the dynamic nature of traffic and unpredictable traffic bursts, A-SAT technology developed by Advantech Wireless resolves this dilemma by combining both technologies in the same platform which adapts to the traffic needs, seamlessly to the user, and delivering the best navigation experience with the lowest occupied transponder bandwidth.”
