[Satellite TODAY 08-01-12] European satellite solutions manufacturer Work Microwave has rolled out a series of new features for its range of high-speed DVB-S2 modems, including new traffic optimization and bandwidth-capacity management capabilities, the company announced July 31.

Work Microwave said the new features aim to allow broadcast, satellite and telecommunications providers to more efficiently and reliably deliver a high-quality video and data service. The enhanced modem product line includes: Work Microwave’s DVB-S2 Modem SK-TS for transport stream applications; DVB-S2 IP-Modem SK-IP for IP/Ethernet data transport; and DVB-S2 Modem SK-DV for combined data and video transmission.
“Utilizing our innovative new filter technology, users can achieve up to 15 percent bandwidth gain on top of the DVB-S2 standard,” Work Microwave said in a company statement. “Operators can constrain the bandwidth of modulated spectrum to achieve a roll-off of 5 percent or more, depending on the tightness of the filter. This allows carriers to be more space-efficient in a multicarrier environment or realize the greatest possible symbol rate within a transponder in a single-carrier-per-transponder environment.”
