[Satellite TODAY 07-27-12] Chinese satellite hardware manufacturer GlobalSat has licensed the Galio HbbTV platform from ANT for hybrid broadcast and broadband TV markets, which will lead to the launch of its next-generation connected set-top boxes, the company announced July 26.

GlobalSat currently deploys a range of digital set-top boxes to satellite, terrestrial, cable and IPTV markets across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North Africa and Australia. The company said that hybrid TV is fast becoming a dominant standard and estimated that there will be 60 million hybrid-compliant TV sets in Western Europe alone by 2014.
“The ANT Galio HbbTV Platform continues to be selected based on its assured compliance with the HbbTV standard, GlobalSat CEO Mike Miao said in a statement. “After evaluating the HbbTV market, it became clear that the ANT team has unrivalled market experience which has led to the development of the leading HbbTV software solution.”
