[Satellite TODAY 03-16-12] FSS operator Intelsat has authorized NovelSat’s NS1000 modulators and NS2000 demodulators for use on Intelsat satellite transponders, NovelSat confirmed March 13.

NovelSat’s third-generation NS3 satellite transmission technology aims to increase satellite bandwidth capacity by 20 percent to 55 percent more than current DVB-S2 and DVB-S standards. NS3 is based on a combination of signal processing techniques and a mix of algorithms that normally cancel each other out. The system features FPGAs and ASICs provide the algorithms with virtually unlimited computational power. Wulkan said NovelSat had been working on the technology since 2007.

In a statement, NovelSat CEO Itzak Wulkan said that Intelsat completed a review of NovelSat equipment and that the operator concluded that its solutions were, “appropriate for our customers to incorporate, including the 5 percent roll-off factor, in their current and future services. Our NS3 technology enables customers using Intelsat capacity to benefit from the fastest data rates, widest pipe and best ROI in the industry.”
