[Satellite TODAY 03-14-12] Japanese telecommunications and car electronics manufacturer Yupiteru has selected Swiss positioning company U-blox’s QZSS satellite positioning technology and QZSS-enabled LEA-6H satellite receiver module for integration with its automobile products, U-blox announced March 12.
Yupiteru incorporated the U-blox LEA-6H satellite receiver with its touchscreen GWR73SD radar detector to enhance positioning performance and radar detection and add vehicle diagnostic capabilities.
“U-blox’ quick time to market with QZSS receiver technology allowed us to be the first on the market with a highly accurate, highly reliable positioning device that already capitalizes on the first QZSS satellite in service,” Yupiteru Spokesman Atsushi Ishibashi said in a statement. “The GWR73SD is particularly attractive for drivers in urban environments in Japan where GPS satellites can be blocked by tall buildings.”
The first of four planned QZSS satellites entered service in 2011. The constellation is scheduled for completion by 2020.
