[Satellite TODAY 02-13-12] Abu Dhabi-based satellite company YahLive has commenced broadcasts of the entertainment station High TV 3D, the company announced Feb. 10.

The 24-hour channel broadcasts news, television series and movies in 3-D, requiring viewers to purchase a special TV set and glasses.
YahLive transmits the channel from its Yahsat Y1A satellite, which was launched into orbit in April 2011. The satellite’s coverage includes the Middle East, North Africa, western Asia and parts of Europe.
“Many people thought that 3-D was merely a gimmick that would wear off quickly. But to us, we believe that 3-D is the logical evolution of the TV experience,” YahLive CEO Mohamed Youssif said in a statement.
The distribution deal follows YahLive’s similar agreements in 2011 to carry channels broadcast by MBC, Dubai Media and Abu Dhabi Media.
