[Satellite TODAY 10-24-11] Thuraya has signed a new partnership deal in Africa as it looks to boost its market position in the region. The company has signed a service partner agreement with Africell, a GSM operator with a presence across Africa.
Africell will be providing Thuraya’s data and voice services in Gambia, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Africell Holding operates three GSM operations: Africell Gambia, Africell Sierra Leone and Africell RDC. The company’s DRC operation is set to launch in the first half of this year.
“Africa offers significant business opportunities due to its size, geographical composition, population and economical potential. The new partnership with Africell is part of our strategy to enhance our distribution network and reach out to our vertical industry consumers wherever they choose to operate,” Thuraya’s CEO Samer Halawi said in a statement.
