Optimal Satcom has been awarded a multi-year contract by Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) to provide an enterprise satellite capacity system to help manage ABS’ commercial satellite business, Optimal Satcom announced Sept. 7.

   The system will include Optimal Satcom’s Enterprise Capacity Manager (ECM) software system integrated with its Complan capacity management tool and several networked servers and replicated databases installed at several ABS offices around the world. The solution aims to allow ABS personnel to simultaneously manage their satellite business from any ABS office while ensuring high-performance and redundancy.

   Optimal Satcom also said it would support the migration of ABS’s legacy systems and databases to the new system and provide development of interfaces with ABS’s other operational systems, as well as post-deployment support services. The ECM system is planned for operations in ABS’ last fiscal quarter of 2011.

   “With the dramatic growth of our satellite fleet and the addition of multiple satellites being added in the next two to three years, it was critical for ABS to implement a robust capacity management system that could help us manage the operations for our growing satellite business,” ABS CEO Tom Choi said in a statement.
