Intelsat has signed two contracts with SkyStream, a Dubai-based provider of connectivity and satellite services solutions, for nearly 40 MHz of new C-band capacity on Intelsat 17, the operator announced Sept. 10.

The Intelsat 17 satellite, located at 66 degrees East, will allow SkyStream to offer GSM backhaul, Internet access and On-Demand video service to its maritime and terrestrial customers. SkyStream will provide these services via Intelsat 17 and the IntelsatONE advanced terrestrial network, with connectivity support from Intelsat’s teleport in Fuchsstadt, Germany.
SkyStream said it is also using part of the capacity to offer GSM backhaul services from yachts and terrestrial sites back to its customers in the United Arab Emirates.
“The vast reach of Intelsat 17 and IntelsatONE helps us complete our current regional maritime coverage. This agreement firmly establishes SkyStream as a leading maritime solutions provider,” SkyStream Managing Director Riyadh Al Adely said in a statement.
