[Satellite TODAY 05-10-11] Sky Italia contracted video contribution and distribution solutions provider T-VIPS to deliver its TVG425 MPEG Transport Stream and the TVG450 JPEG2000 video gateways to the broadcaster, T-VIPS announced May 9.
Sky Italia said it has already received the order and plans to use the gateways to provide advanced video transport functionality for its next-generation contribution network. The TVG425 MPEG transport stream features in-built input switching, which provides Sky Italia with automated redundancy for ASI and IP transport streams. The TVG450 enables Sky Italia to deploy JPEG2000 compression for the real-time contribution and distribution of broadcast quality video over IP networks and supports lossless and visually lossless compression.
“The T-VIPS solutions are now integrated with the network, which will go live in the first half of 2011. This deployment, which connects Milan and Rome, is the first phase of a Sky Italia project to move to an advanced future-proofed all-IP video contribution network,” T-VIPS said in a company statement.
