[Satellite TODAY 04-25-11] Hispasat and Pittsburgh International Telecommunications (PIT), a privately owned teleport and global distributor, have entered into a strategic partnership to launch New Winds, a DTH platform that will be hosted on the Amazonas-2 satellite, the companies announced April 22.
New Winds will target the North American DTH market, providing an MCPC platform uplinked from the PIT teleport. The service was launched with nine channels from Europe and the Middle East, with additional channels planned from the Americas.
"The Hispasat Group has already achieved a strong presence in the DTH market in Europe and Latin America, and our goal is to extend this presence in the North American market. The initiative with PIT will allow us to position Amazonas-2 as the ideal spacecraft to broadcast content to the North American Market," Hispasat Commercial Services Director Miguel Angel Redondo said in a statement.
