Satellite digital cinema distributor Microspace Communications has extended business agreements with four unnamed movie studios to continue delivering streamed first run feature movies via satellite, Microspace announced.
   Microspace said it has 19 events already slated to run in 2011 and has delivered more than 70 total films to 3,500 screens across the United States, Mexico and Canada to date. Microspace now services 260 theaters in North America.
   “As digital cinema continues to mature, Microspace’s satellite services continue to provide both studios and exhibitors with the most secure and reliable delivery of digital content to the big screen. Combined with the cost savings and reduced theatre workload, electronic delivery of theatrical content via satellite is rapidly becoming the preferred method of distribution for content owners,” Microspace Vice President and General Manager Joe Amor said in a statement.
