[Satellite TODAY 03-10-11] SatLink Communications is upgrading its occasional-use capabilities by adding HD DVB-S2 feeds and other technologies to its facilities, the company announced March 9.
The company’s HD DVB-S2 transition includes more than $1 million in asset investments to reach 25 simultaneous outgoing transmission capabilities along with its existing ability to handle up to 72 simultaneous incoming feeds. The encoding of SatLink’s feeds in HD MPEG-4, HD MPEG-2 4.2.2 formats will be handled by equipment from Tandberg, Harmonic and Cisco Systems.
"Our [occasional-use] business has always been a major pillar of growth and with the addition of new technologies, we will be in an even better position to support our global and regional clients with the flexibility, service and price they need and expect," SatLink CEO David Hochner said in a statement.
