[Satellite TODAY 02-10-11] Harris Corp. launched its new Selenio media convergence platform and has been contracted to provide the large-scale contribution and distribution system to Omantel, the company announced Feb. 8.
    The Selenio media convergence platform aims to enable service providers to support content from multiple sources and deliver it over multiple paths. Omantel, the service provider for Oman’s Ministry of Information, will use Harris’ integrated media convergence platform to support a highly redundant 1080p-capable digital television contribution network over 55 sites in Oman’s main cities.     “The Harris Selenio media platform is built on technology that cannot be found anywhere else in the industry. Our goal is to provide the best possible picture quality to the people of Oman, and Selenio, with its 1080p capability, will allow us to do just that,” Omantel Infrastructure Senior Manager Ahmed Al Kindy said in a statement.
