[Satellite TODAY 12-27-10] Growth private equity firm Catalyst Investors has provided $10 million in equity funding to Canadian 4G rural broadband provider Barrett Xplore, the company announced Dec. 23.
    Barrett Xplore will use the proceeds of the funding to support customer growth and prepare the launch of two next-generation satellites, which will aim to offer increases in speed and capacity.
    As part of the deal, Catalyst Investors partner Chris Shipman will join Barrett’s board of directors. “The introduction of 4G wireless broadband services into the rural Canadian marketplace will be a game changer for many of the 2.4 million Canadian households currently overlooked by terrestrial offerings,” Shipman said in a statement.
