[Satellite TODAY Insider 12-14-10] OmniGlobe Networks EMEA has gained full Multimedia Exchange Network over Satellite (MENOS) certification for its Fast News Gathering (FNG) terminal — a crucial development for the company as it targets more growth in the Middle East and African newsgathering markets, OmniGlobe Senior Vice President of Sales Jan Stoop told Satellite TODAY Insider.
“It confirms our commitment to this market and shows the positive response of the market to our product proposition,” said Stoop. “We will continue to develop advanced digital satellite newsgathering (DSNG)/FNG solutions within the MENOS market in close cooperation with the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) and Newtec. The technical demand of MENOS is not something that all DSNG or FNG manufacturers can meet but for OmniGlobe operations it means more of the same as we develop technical solutions which are commercially viable.”
The Ghazala FNG terminal is the latest addition to OmniGlobe’s satellite newsgathering product family. The mobile solution incorporates features designed to enhance the current MENOS concept, combining MPEG-4 AVC encoding with a lightweight antenna, low-power buc and Ku-band LNB and minimizing operational costs. OmniGlobe has been working with Newtec and the ASBU since the beginning of the IP-based networking concept in 2009.
MENOS is an all-IP networking concept used to exchange multimedia content over satellite, allowing broadcasters to share video and audio material among scattered sites in a fully automated and cost-efficient way. The MENOS system also provides a range of tools to facilitate the coordination of tasks and provide additional IP services across the network.
Stoop is confident that the company will see strong growth for its DSNG/FNG business in 2011 in the Middle East and Africa. “The MENOS SNG network is in full evolution and will upgrade from its initial 2010 scale to a larger scale in 2011. This fact will allow more ASBU members to access the inter-continental MENOS network and build their own local network of fixed terminals and mobile terminals which allow them to interface with MENOS. As the MENOS demand increases in 2011, we expect to see revenues and profits grow further,” said Stoop.
