[Satellite TODAY Insider 12-02-10] In an effort to augments its IP portfolio, Sensio Technologies has acquired Algolith’s video-processing IP technology and related patents, Sensio announced Dec. 1.
The purchase includes four patents and nine more pending, Algolith’s image-processing technologies, source code, and schematics. Sensio said the purchase is a major step to boost development of its projects and extend its range of solutions for 3-D delivery.
“Algolith’s noise-reduction and compression-artifact-reduction algorithms are among the best in the industry,” Sensio CTO Étienne Fortin said in a statement. “With the advent of connected TVs, noisy low-bit-rate video will be widespread, and we foresee a high demand for this capability from our current customers in the consumer electronics market.”
While the company did not disclose the exact cost of its purchase, Sensio President and CEO Nicholas Routhier told Satellite TODAY Insider in an e-mail statement that the transaction was, “closed today for well under $1 million. This includes the acquisition of key Algolith personnel and all purchased IP technolgies.”
Routhier said the purchase provides immediate technical opportunities for the company. “This positions us well, as other key technologies will come into play further down the line. We intend to provide full support and compatibility of the entire combined IP and software portfolio of the two companies and develop it over time.”
