[Satellite TODAY 11-25-10] Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has shipped the Hispasat 1E communications satellite, designed and built for Hispasat Group, to Arianespace’s launch facility in Kourou, French Guiana, where it is scheduled to launch next month aboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle, SS/L announced Nov. 24.
     The Ku-band and Ka-band fixed and broadcast services spacecraft is based on the Space Systems/Loral 1300 platform and will aim to provide high-quality capacity for Hispasat’s new initiatives, which include DTH, digital terrestrial television, value added broadband services in mobile, land and maritime environments and HDTV.
     The satellite will be positioned at the 30 degrees West longitude orbital slot, where it will expand coverage in Europe, the Americas, and North Africa.
