[Satellite TODAY 11-12-10] Thaicom reported a 2 percent increase in satellite-related revenue at $111 million in its 2010 third quarter, backed by solid subscriber revenue gains in its IPStar satellite consumer broadband service, which offset declines in terminal sales, the company announced in its latest financial results issued Nov. 11.
The Thai satellite operator said IPStar’s service revenues have grown 39.4 percent since the beginning of the year. The company said a proliferation of IPStar antenna technology allowing users to establish temporary, mobile sites for cellular network operators has driven the revenue gains, despite user terminals sales dropping 28.7 percent during the quarter. Thaicom said IPStar would remain operational through 2021.
Thaicom also announced that it sent the 16-year-old Thaicom 2 satellite into a graveyard orbit Oct. 30. The satellite, launched in 1994, was taken out of service earlier this year after it surpassed its 15-year service life.
