[Satellite TODAY 11-10-10] Satellite communications company SatCom Group Holdings has acquired German software development specialist Abbey Technologies for an undisclosed amount, SatCom announced Nov. 9.
    Abbey, which focuses on advanced Java Web application services, worked with SatCom to develop its Horizon satellite communications delivery optimization offering over the past 19 months. SatCom then decided to bid for Abbey’s Horizon intellectual property rights and technical support staff.
    “When combined with SatCom’s worldwide resources and industry expertise, [Abbey] will enhance our ability to further the Horizon product line and develop more comprehensive and innovative solutions for our customers.  Horizon will be our core product for years to come, and we will continue to develop the platform for new applications and markets,” SatCom COO Sandy Johnson said in a statement.
    Abbey founder Brian Collins will serve as COO for SatCom after the acquisition is completed.
