[Satellite TODAY 11-09-10] EchoStar reported $5 million in profits during the 2010 third quarter, backed by a 26 percent increase in revenues over the same period in 2009 to $607 million, the company announced Nov. 8.
    While EchoStar’s profits plunged compared to its net income of $294 million reported a year ago, the company’s results beat analysts’ expectations that the company would report net losses on revenues of $552 million.
    EchoStar’s digital set-top box business saw revenues rise 22 percent to $535.9 million and contributed about 90 percent to the company’s revenue in the quarter.
    EchoStar still relies on sister company Dish Network for most of its business. On Nov. 5, Dish Network reported its net income increased by triple-digit percentages to $245 million for the quarter, compared with $81 million during the corresponding period in 2009.
