[Satellite TODAY 10-20-10] Iridium’s Brazilian subsidiary Iridium Serviçios de Satelites named GPS tracking and communication specialist Blue Sky Network to be the subidiary’s mobile satellite service provider in Brazil, Iridium announced Oct. 19.
Blue Sky Network will provide its satellite-based GPS tracking and remote communication solutions directly to air, land and marine vehicles using Iridium’s service in Brazil. To support its expansion into the region, Blue Sky Network opened a facility outside of Sao Paulo. The facility currently provides GPS tracking and communication services to civilian and government aviation operations, including Brazilian airline TAM and Lider, a regional provider of helicopter and executive aviation services.
In a statement, Blue Sky Network CEO Jon Gilbert said Brazil is a comfortable next step for the company’s future growth strategy. “Our comprehensive asset tracking solution that features real time tracking, text messaging, telemetry, and voice communication is particularly well suited to Brazil. The country’s dense and expansive geography provides many obstacles to safe and secure transport and we look forward to helping aircraft and fleet owners overcome these challenges.”
