[Satellite TODAY Insider 10-12-10] Thomson Video Networks (TVN) has won a pair of deals to expand its satellite infrastructure for pay-TV operators.
TVN announced Oct. 11 that it had signed a deal with Spanish broadcaster Canal Satélite Digital (CSD) to expand TVN’s satellite infrastructure installation to support CSD’s addition of two new HD transponders.
CSD, which broadcasts more than 100 channels under the Digital+ brand, has installed Thomson ViBE EM3000 HD encoders and NetProcessor 9030 multiplexers at its facility in Tres Cantos, Madrid. The compression system was installed with on-site start-up services from Thomson, which also provided integration with the broadcaster’s existing XMS network management system.
On Oct. 4, TVN was selected by South African pay-TV operator MultiChoice to install ViBE EM2000 dual-channel SD encoders as part of an infrastructure expansion for MultiChoice’s Johannesburg headend facilities broadcasting to sub-Saharan Africa.
MultiChoice said the ViBE EM2000 would allow the broadcaster to achieve high-density expansion of its head-end capability to meet increasing demand for services. The ViBE EM2000 encoders are deployed by MultiChoice within the framework of a redundant IP architecture designed to support multiple transponders with output from Thomson NetProcessor multiplexers.
Future growth of capacity will require only the addition of extra encoders, Multichoice said.
