[Satellite TODAY 10-11-10] A Dish Network contract dispute with Fox Networks may result in the removal of local Fox programming from Dish subscriber’s television screens Nov. 1, Fox announced Oct. 8.
In a separate dispute between the two companies in September, U.S. satellite TV provider Dish Network claimed that Fox was demanding a 50 percent increase for 19 regional sports networks, National Geographic and FX channels.
In a statement, Fox denied Dish Network’s claims and pulled those channels off of Dish Network’s platform. “We are not seeking a 50 percent increase for FX, National Geographic Channel and our 19 regional sports networks. And we are not asking you for any more money. We are simply asking Dish to compensate us fairly out of their massive profits for Fox’s entertainment and sports programming services they sell to their subscribers,” Fox officials said, adding that the loss of sports and other Fox programming may soon be followed by the loss of local programming.
Dish Network Programming Director Dave Shull issued a response Oct. 8, stating that it was “inappropriate” for the broadcasting network to make any connection between the two disputes.
Details of the Fox/Dish Network contract issue were not disclosed.
